TARYN SIMON The Magical Conductor is a large-scale multimedia exhibition at the core of which lies The Conversation Machine (2022), a thirty-two-screen installation in a cathedral-like setting where neuroscientists, psychologists, neurolinguists, and philosophers from five continents convene to discuss who and what we are. Using this work as a starting point, the exhibition spirals outwards into speculative constellations of iconic works that span Simon’s career, forming invisible collaborations rooted in the simultaneity of truth and storytelling.
Throughout her practice, Simon directs attention to familiar systems of organization, inventories and identification—bloodlines, circulating picture collections, mourning rituals, and ceremonial flower arrangements—and examines the filters through which objectivity and algorithms operate, making visible the contours of power. Simon is an internationally recognized artist whose complex, cerebral work engages audiences with our current political and digital realities. Building on the success of previous landmark exhibitions, The Magical Conductor offers a synthetic and fresh view of her practice.
